Botswana
The Republic of Botswana (Tswana: Lefatshe la Botswana) is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. The citizens are referred to as "Batswana" (singular: Motswana). Formerly the British protectorate of Bechuanaland, Botswana adopted its new name after becoming independent within the Commonwealth on 30 September 1966. It has held free and fair democratic elections since independence.
Geographically the country is flat and up to 70% of Botswana is covered by the Kalahari Desert. It is bordered by South Africa to the south and southeast, Namibia to the west and north, and Zimbabwe to the northeast. It meets Zambia at a single point.
Botswana is one of the world’s great development success stories. A small, landlocked country of 1.9 million people, Botswana was one of the poorest countries in Africa with a GDP per capita of about US$70 at independence from Britain in 1966. In the four decades following independence, Botswana has transformed itself, moving into the ranks of middle-income status to become one of the fastest growing economies in the world with its average annual growth rate of about 9 percent.

Gaborone
Gaborone is situated at 24°39?29?S 25°54?44?E? / ?24.65806°S 25.91222°E? / -24.65806; 25.91222 between Kgale and Oodi Hills, on the Notwane River in the southeastern corner of Botswana, and 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from the South African border . The city is served by the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport.

Francistown
Francistown is the second largest city in Botswana, with a population of about 85,363, and often described as the "Capital of the North".It is located in eastern Botswana, about 400 kilometres (250 mi) north-northeast from the capital, Gaborone. Francistown is located at the confluence of the Tati and Inchwe rivers, and near the Shashe River (tributary to the Limpopo) and 90 kilometres from the international border with Zimbabwe.

Molepolole is Botswana's biggest village. It lies in the south east of the county. The people who reside in Molepolole are the Bakwena, who are one of the three major tribes in Botswana.The Bakwena chief was among the three chiefs who went to England to seek protection from the British in the colonial era.

Serowe
Serowe (population approx. 90 000) was famed as Botswana's largest village after Molepolole. Serowe has a rich history in Botswana'; it being the capital for the Bamangwato people in the early part of the 20th century and for being the birth place for many of Botswana's Presidents. In recent times it has seen many developments as the town and Botswana continue to grow.

Selebi-Phikwe
Selebi-Phikwe (also spelt Selibe Phikwe) is a mining town located in the Central District of Botswana. It had a population of 49,849 in 2001 which is now estimated to have risen to c.52000. Nickel mining commenced in 1973 and has been the main activity since. The complex includes a mine and a smelter.

Maun is the fifth largest town in Botswana. As of 2001, it had a population of 43,776. It is an eclectic mix of modern buildings and native huts. Maun is the "tourism capital" of Botswana and the administrative centre of Ngamiland district.

Kanye is a town located in southern Botswana. It is the administrative center of the Southern District. It is the capital of the Bangwaketse tribe whose chief is Kgosi Seepapitso IV. Kanye is the original village for Bangwaketse, which is one of the biggest tribes in Botswana. It is located in the mountainous region of Southern Botswana.

Mochudi
Mochudi is one of the larger villages in Botswana with a population of around 40,000. It is situated in the Bakgatla tribal region, in Kgatleng District, about 37 km (23 miles) northeast of Gaborone. The village lies several kilometres from the main Gaborone–Francistown road, and can be found by taking the turning at Pilane.
Mochudi was settled by the Tswana people in 1871
